Students at Park Slope Collegiate and their teacher, Michael Salak, have been engaged in an Urban Memory Project since the Fall. Among their studies, the students have turned their gaze to the Gowanus neighborhood, researching various points of view on what is best for this evolving community. Students have spoken to area residents, urban planners, historic preservationists and environmentalists, as well as visited the area to see it first hand. As part of their research, students took photographs, attempting to capture the character of this neighborhood in transition. Many of these photographs will be on display in the students’ final exhibition at their school in January.
