ABOUT THE SPRING COLLABORATION

The Urban Memory Project will be working with students at the Lower Manhattan Arts Academy (LOMA) at Seward Park High School. Student work will become part of the vast archive of documentation and art that is the legacy of the Lower East Side.

Spring Collaboration Goals:

  • To introduce students to the rich history of the LES and have them understand that they are part of the continuum of history.
  • For students to understand the choices facing the neighborhood today and to share their voice about the community.

Student Experience:

Students will research the history of the neighborhood with historic documents and artifacts, and by reading and discussing complex texts.  Students will create their own documentation of the neighborhood using photography and film, and by interviewing community members, including shop-owners, long-time residents, and members of community-based organizations.
